Another great year has passed and I am hoping to have a golden year of my life in 2015.  Last year was a milestone year in my life.  I gave three stage presentations, my sister got married, I got married and I finally purchased my own flat. (Buying a flat was my 25th birthday wish.  Okay, I’m a little late.  But as always, late is better than never!)

Now here we are in 2015, and as always in a fresh new year, we find ourselves inspired to make some new commitments to ourselves.

I, too, am inspired by a fresh new year, and so I am making some fresh new commitments to myself which I believe will positively affect my life this year and for many years to come.

new year resolution

My New Year’s Resolutions:

Attaning financial literacy:

I consider myself a creative guy rather than a business-oriented guy. This has long been my excuse for not giving proper attention to my finances early in my life.

However, last month I read a book called “Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money – That the Poor and the Middle Class Do Not!”, and it changed my perception of money. With that change in perception came my realization of the biggest reason we all struggle to attain financial freedom.

Most of us work hard all year long, pay our taxes, and try to save and invest a little money if we can. This is what I used to do as well, but the problem with this approach is that we will always be running at the same pace.

As the years pass our financial needs will increase, and our investments will be just enough to cover them. The smarter investor will find a way to make money from his investments.  For instance, one could buy real estate and generate revenue by re-selling it or renting it out.  Or one could invest in mutual funds, PPFs or other tax-saving mechanisms that exist to help us to reach our financial goals.

My goal for this year is to read and implement as much as I can to save my wisely-earned money, and make money from my savings.

Look for a future post in which I will share some tips for saving money.

Reading more books:

I am an avid reader, and this year I intend to read at least one self-help book every month. I have already started doing this, and I suggest you to do the same.

If you are looking for book suggestions, I would suggest that you start with “Rich dad, Poor Dad”, and “How to Win Friends and Influence People”.

Networking:

Networking

When I evaluated my progress in 2014, I realized that my greatest achievements had arisen from personal recommendations and from my outreach to my network.

Networking is a very important aspect of the way we live our lives. Not only does it bring us enjoyment and fulfillment, but it also adds knowledge, human connection, and the development of our ability to see life from other points of view.

Fitness:

Finally, I have given some thought to joining a gym this year, but I have decided not to add it to my new years resolutions. For now, yoga is helping to keep me in shape, and if I get motivated enough to head for a gym, my year-end diary will reflect that with joy!

For now these are my 2015 “new year’s resolutions”!

I would love to know your resolutions for the year 2015! What do you want to achieve?

  1. Wow harsh, you inspire me every time I come here. In fact I was reading that Dale Carnegie book right now. I would recommend a book – Think fast and slow. (maybe you already have it)

    Wish you best

  2. Just wanted to add another comment regarding investment. Do checkout a stock Eicher Motors, it went from 4k last year to 15k now. Good fundamentals and they own the brand Royal Enfield. No competitors in that segment and strong export market. But wait for a correction to enter in the stock.

  3. That’s great Harsh! You have achieved a lot at this age and you are quite successful in the field of blogging from the last 5 years….All the best Harsh…

  4. Amazing life changing resolutions! Thanks so much for sharing it Harsh! You are really an inspiration! 😀
